Although the current complex made up of the Mare de Déu de la Salut Sanctuary and the accommodation has been largely modified and rebuilt, it has its origins in the 17th century. It was built on the remains of Mas Cadira, and it was inaugurated in 1681. The founder was Felip Olivet, who died in 1710. The sanctuary was restored during the 19th century, after the devastation probably caused by the War of the Convention. In 1887 the works of the new church were completed and in 1891 the new lodgings were inaugurated. In 1930, the Architect, Pelai Martínez designed the main altar, which was damaged during the 1936-39 war. In 1942 the reconstruction work was inaugurated. With its long tradition in the region, various gatherings are held in the sanctuary and the lodgings are open all year round.
The couplets of the Mare de Déu de la Salut Sanctuary in Terrades are dedicated to the Immaculate Virgin. These couplets were composed by the Brotherhood of the Most Pure Blood of Jesus in the city of Figueres. They were songs dedicated to certain religious symbols, such as the Virgin Mary. Some compositions stood out for their marked popular style and being sung by a group of singers. Their purpose was to offer a prayer or give thanks for certain events that had occurred. In the case of the Mare de Déu de la Salut Sanctuary in Terrades, they are complemented by the large number of votive offerings found inside its church. These included offerings from sports groups, individuals or other entities, giving thanks to the Virgin Mary for helping them achieve certain goals. These couplets are preserved in the Empordà Museum in Figueres.
