The Empordà Museum is an institution which was established in 1946 and aimed at the research, preservation and dissemination of local and regional cultural heritage, through an extensive programme of exhibitions and activities. It offers the public a historical reading of its collections and is especially dedicated to contemporary artistic creation. It has an educational and publication service, a library and a projection screen room. With a history dating back to 1885, with the arrival of the first pieces from the Prado Museum, it brings together an interesting collection of art with works by prominent painters in the Catalan art scene such as: Sorolla, Casas, Nonell, Sacharoff, Tàpies, Torres Monsó, Zush and Pazos; and from Empordà: Dalí, Santos, Reig, Vallès, Planells, Massanet, Gabriel and Mitjà. The collection is completed with archaeological collections, medieval art and baroque paintings.
