Border castle that belonged to the Rocabertí family and served as the viscount’s estate until the family acquired Peralada in the mid-13th century. The castle is first documented in 948. This small castle stands on a steep cone-shaped granite rock and was built to adapt to the irregular terrain. It can easily be seen from the village of La Jonquera below. The castle ruins include the entrance doorway, made of small, rough ashlars, that may date to the 11th century; three rooms with the remains of their vaults; the cistern (dug out of the rock); the well-preserved ruins of a triangular tower built from smooth ashlars; and the chapel, which was dedicated to Sant Romà and of which only the southern wall and the southern half of the semi-circular apse, possibly from the 12th century, remain.
