The Trinitat Castle crowns Poncella point above the Roses Lighthouse. This military building, dating back to 1544, was built during the reign of Emperor Charles I. It is shaped like a five-pointed star, with sharp angular edges to defend itself from projectiles from enemies. It is very large in size and its walls are more than two-metres thick.
In this photograph taken by Narcís Roget from Figueres in 1910, we can see the mountain of Puig Rom in Roses in the background. In the foreground, the Roses Lighthouse can be seen along with its annexes. Rising up just behind this, the remains of the Trinitat Castle can be seen. Half in ruins, significant deterioration is evident, something which motivated a major architectural intervention in more recent times. The current appearance of the building is quite different from its original state and especially what is shown in this image. Next to the castle there are rows upon rows of vines, typical in vineyard cultivation, and which almost reach the edge of the old walls. The photograph belongs to the Narcís Roget Collection, which forms part of the collections of the Empordà Museum in Figueres.
