STONEMASON'S HUT | Pla de Vinyers
Local inventory: L-35 | Code Wikipedia: 6,830
Declared Cultural Asset of Local Interest
Interior height: 2.65 m | Inner diameter Ø: 2.50 m
Stone hut with a square floor plan with a circular vault and a truncated cone or false vault roof finished with slabs. The entrance door is finished with a double lintel on which rests an edged discharging arch. On the outside, you can see high-quality stone work, with rough-hewn, chipped and scored, which continues inside with two large niches and a basin, all three squared and with clean and regular lines. The door has been worked on to be able to close it: we find a stone shelf, buttresses, running board and a niche on the lintel on its inner part.
The magnificent construction work and the proximity of a pit of about 10 x 15 meters, from which stone had probably been extracted, reveal the use and user of this hut: a stonecutter dedicated to the exploitation of the subsoil.
Restored through two volunteer workshops promoted by Llers Town Council in 2021 with the collaboration of the Prat Comú and Via Pirena associations as part of Dry Stone Week.
Project sponsored by the Llers school as part of the “Raising awareness among the local population to protect the heritage of the Garriga d'Empordà” campaign within the framework of the PECT titled “Valorisation of the dry stone construction heritage of the Garriga d'Empordà”.
