Peralada had a double walled enclosure, of which only a few traces remain. The oldest, likely from the 10th-11th centuries, is made of rough ashlars arranged in a zig-zag design. A section of wall on the street Carrer Sant Sebastià has been preserved, as well as another section on Carrer Sota Muralla, with overlapping constructions from the 18th century that make it impossible to see a continuous view and between these wall sections, and among which a square tower visible from Carrer Sota Muralla stands out. Two portals in this ancient enclosure remain: one on Costa de Les Monges, with a voussoir semi-circular arch, and another in Plaça de Sant Domènec. The second walled enclosure was extended on the south-east side, where a new portal was opened that leads to Plaça de la Font when entering the village and to the Sant Sebastià chapel and the Vilabertran road when leaving.
