The agricultural plain of Alt Empordà is a territory dedicated to farming for many years. Just by looking at the photograph from the early 20th century where the whole plain is occupied by crops and farmhouses. Within the plain, there are two types of landscapes linked to agriculture: the fondals and the clos. The former occupies most of the plain and are the best lands. The latter are located near the coast and are fields bordered by trees that are periodically flooded to combat salinity.
