The landscape of Garrotxa d'Empordà has two different aspects. On one hand, there are the dry agricultural landscapes with interesting tree-lined borders and, on the other hand, we have the slopes where agricultural abandonment has caused forests to grow. In this second space, it is increasingly common to find abandoned farmhouses completely surrounded by forests, mainly secondary pine forests of white pine, shrublands, and grasslands.
Recently, these spaces have also been characterized by the presence of numerous farms, some of which are large and are threatened by the possible implementation of large-scale renewable energy projects. These are very beautiful, quiet paths that wind through tall pine trees with green crowns and robust trunks. They were created by ancient farmers to go from one village to another, men who built huts and dry stone alleys, humble rural architects who demonstrated their skills by creating elements like these, which persist even today.
