Given its location, the church of Sant Llorenç de la Muga is sure to have been built later than the centre of Sant Llorenç. The church was originally Romanesque with three naves and it appears in documents dating back to the 12th century. It has undergone a long history of transformations, reforms and partial destructions: the nave on the left-hand side is no longer there, the apse of the right nave has been completely rebuilt and the façade has undergone a complete transformation and is later than the original church. Currently, the area around the apse is landscaped and provides access to the Muga River and the small allotments outside the walls, where the famous Sant Llorenç beans are grown.
