The Mas Baleta I and II Dolmens are megalithic tombs located near Mas Baleta. The first has four upright slabs and two forming the capstone, and the second is a small, three-slab cist with considerable destruction of the capstone. They date back to the 3rd millennium BC. Bones and ceramic fragments and a burst of flint were found in the excavation, but only Mas Baleta I preserves part of the mounds.
An interesting photograph from the work of Manuel Cazurro Ruiza “Los monumentos megalíticos de la provincia de Gerona” (The megalithic monuments of the province of Girona), published in 1912. A work that forms part of the library collection held at the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia in Girona. In the image we see the Mas Baleta Dolmen in La Jonquera with someone leaning against the top of the monument. The image is interesting because it was taken before the successive excavations that have been carried out throughout the 20th century.
