The origins of the Order of Carmen convent date back to 1293. During the Great War (1794), the religious community was forced to leave the convent. They returned in 1808 but the French troops made them leave once again. In 1809, the community returned again until 1835, when the convent was confiscated. In 1855 the Rocabertí family had the outbuildings renovated to build a school and a library there. During the 19th century the convent’s cellar was used as a gymnasium by the counts. In the 1960s it was converted into a wine museum. Today, one of the most important collections of Catalan glassware can be seen in the museum. In addition to this, it also has Catalan pottery, ancient coins from Iberian and Roman sites, etc. As for the library, it contains more than 80,000 volumes, a collection of more than 1.000 different copies of Don Quixote and a historical archive.
