The preserved remains of the old Castle of Serraí consist primarily of a single wall approximately 10 meters high and one meter thick, with a remarkable inscription: CASTRUM SARRACENUM VEL DE SERRAHÍ Y FABRE 1743". This inscription describes the name of the fortification and that of its original lords. Like many other fortifications in the area, it found its strategic value in the border area between the counties of Besalú and Empúries. That is how, with eleven other fortifications, a well-known border defense was formed like the twelve Castles of Llers.
