Of this castle, which was part of the border line of the county of Besalú, there are only remains of the walls and tower (dating from 11th-12th centuries). It is located on a hill in front of town, on the other side of the river. It dates from 1125 and the castle itself had a defensive function between the rival counties of Empúries and Besalú. Later it was reformed and finally abandoned. Today it is in a dilapidated state and surrounded by forest, which makes it difficult to visit.
