This house was originally the residence of the Godo Car family. In 1896 the building became the headquarters of the Amistat Recreational Society, probably founded in 1856 under the name “La Benèfica”. In many towns in the Alt Empordà, from the second half of the 19th century onwards, the creation of charitable societies, which were set up to provide economic aid to its members, became a social phenomenon. Historically, however, they had a cultural and recreational aspect that ended up being the predominate one. In the casino’s hall, there are six large charcoal drawings donated to the organisation by the painter Eliseu Meifrè (1859-1940). He remained loyal to the town and the landscape of Cadaqués as one of its main discoverers from 1886.
