Historically, it was believed that this building is located on the site of the Fortià families old house, where the Empordàn Queen Sibila de Fortià, the fourth wife of Peter III (known as ‘The Ceremonious’), was born. The late medieval remains are mostly located in the northern half of the building, consisting of the storage structures or silos and a series of structures whose purpose is unknown. The other localised structures, distributed throughout the building, date back to the 17th century. No remains have been found that can be ascribed to the 14th century, when Queen Sibila lived there and, therefore, an early-medieval chronology of the building was ruled out at first, although this earlier building could have been demolished during the flood which occurred in 1421.
