The can Palau observatory bunker is part of the defensive system that was created after the Civil War to control the borders. The bunker was completed in 1941.
The site was chosen because it offered privileged sights that embraced from the Panissars and Pertús passes. This strategic position allowed to control the traffic of people or enemy troops during the Second World War.
The construction has two accesses and three observation ports, to cover the north direction, the Pertús sector. A long corridor has at the same time three observation windows to the north, north-west and north-east. There is a small room behind the observatory, with weapons storage, pantry and staff shelter functions, and another corridor shorter than the first that leads to the second access. Above the entrances we find the coat of arms of the regiment and the company that built the fortification.
