The monument, which stands at the edge of a field, had long been known to Joan and Dolors Verdú, residents of Agullana, who showed it to Enric Carreras and Miquel Dídac Piñero in 1986. Members of GESEART, they published their first article in the Hora Nova magazine in Figueres. It was raised to its standing position in 1987 during a local festival organised by the Centre Excursionista de Figueres (Figueres Hiker Association), Associació Cultural i Esportiva Jonquerenca (Jonquerenca Culture and Sport Centre), and GESEART. No archaeological excavations have been done nor have any archaeological remains been found in the immediate vicinity of the menhir. Considering its location within the Albera megalithic area, Tarrús (2002) dates it to between the Middle Neolithic period and the Copper Age, that is, between the 4th and 3rd millennium BC.
