The parish church of Sant Martí de Baussitges was consecrated on 20 December 946 by Bishop Gotmar of Girona. Given this date and several of the church’s architectural elements, the building can be classified as pre-Romanesque, particularly considering that the consecration may have happened after it was originally constructed. This new parish was annulled in the Synodales Gerundenses of Romaguera in 1691. Later, as the population declined, the church was left without worshipers and was abandoned. The building was even used as a stable. In 1990 and 1991, the Department of Culture and Communication, Girona Provincial Council, and Espolla Town Council, together with the Figueres Art Group, launched a project to reinforce the building and repair the roof.
