The Monument to Lluís Companys was built by the Commission to commemorate the president going into exile in January 1939. It was inaugurated in 1981, on the Coll de Manrella pass, right on the border with France. Every year, on 15 October, the date on which Lluís Companys was shot in Montjuïc in 1940, an act of homage is celebrated in his honour. The monument is the work of the Architect, Santiago Boix Folqué.
Photograph from Enric Tubert’s Private Collection about Mas Perxés. President Companys stayed in this farmhouse before going into exile in France. Specifically, he spent the night of 5 February 1936 in this farmhouse near the town of Agullana. The next day, he left Catalonia for France with the President of the Basque government at that time, José Antonio Aguirre.
