The site, once a large walled town, dates to the Iberian period. The first archaeological excavations were conducted by the Girona Centre for Archaeological Research (now the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia) from 1975 to 1978, confirming three different areas:
It was occupied until the 2nd century BC, and there was no further human occupation until the farmhouse was built. The modern kiln about 40 m southwest of the complex was documented in 1991 but was not excavated due to the danger involved.
