There is evidence that in medieval times there was already a lighthouse on the site where the Trinitat Castle was later built. A document from 1362 mentions a “podio de ferro” (iron podium) and the “puig des far” (lighthouse hill). A 16th century engraving depicts a tower or lighthouse on the same site where the Trinitat Castle was later built. Today’s lighthouse was designed by J. M. Faquinetto and built, like most of lighthouses on the Catalan coast, during the reign of Isabella II within the 1847 General Plan for the lighting of coasts and ports. It first operated on 1 September 1864. Electricity was installed in 1921; until then it had run on oil. Later, in 1962, the power was reduced from 500 to 250 watts.
