The church of Sant Quirze d'Olmells may have started as a parish church. There is no documented evidence of this purpose, but the church was documented in a will in the 11th century. There are several subsequent references to this church, but we do not know how it lost its worshipers or why it was left to ruin, possibly in the 19th century. The nave may have originally had a wooden or barrel-vault ceiling supported by an arch band. It later had a lunette, however, that eventually caved in.
