The church of Sant Martí del Far has been documented as far back as the 13th and 14th centuries. It appears to have been rebuilt during the 13th century, when the count of Empúries had the castle built. It is a Romanesque church that serves as an example of the transition to the Gothic style. The apse and the bell tower rising from the frontispiece were fortified during the same period as the rest of the church. Likewise, there are stone walls with rectangular battlements on the side of the nave that correspond to a later reform, possibly from the 18th century.
