The twin evergreen oaks of Mas Nebot are located on the outskirts of the town of Vilanant, along the road that goes towards Cistella. In the middle of a small wood stands an imposing large oak. Some of its branches are so big they could very well be trees themselves. Its importance as an element of special natural interest has led to it being declared a Monumental Tree by the Government of Catalonia.
Recent photograph from the Ernest Costa Collection deposited with the INSPAI Centre. An image that shows the grandeur of one of the twin evergreen oaks of Mas Nebot in Vilanant. A popular spot for the local townsfolk where they can enjoy the abundant shade provided by these two exceptional forest specimens. We find a literary reference in a writing by the writer Montserrat Vayreda who gave a beautiful description of the trees. An interesting definition that highlights their size: “Each branch, if felled, would look like another oak.” Finally, it’s worth mentioning that back in the 19th century the area was already referred to as the “Grosses Alzines del Bosquet” (The Large Oaks of the Small Woods).
