A facility founded by Ramon Margineda i Duran (1883-1928), industrial archaeologist, collector and entertainer at a cultural centre in Vilajuïga who lived in the same complex that the mineral water was extracted from. He was one of the first to look into the mineral water in around 1917. The Aigües de Vilajuïga drinking water company was founded in 1904 by six families from Empordà. Its waters were declared as having mineral-medicinal qualities and for public use by the Royal Order of 15 July 1904. In 1909, the architect Josep Azemar was commissioned to design a modernist-style construction work to build a medicinal water establishment which never ended up being carried out. Thus, within the premises of the current Aigües de Vilajuïga there are still various buildings built to be used as warehouses. Today, two natural springs remain there. It is a much-appreciated table water due to its sodium bicarbonate composition.
